Jez Hodgkinson

In the wake of a stroke that left his speech affected by aphasia, Jez Hodgkinson faced a life-altering challenge. Like many survivors, he encountered the isolation and frustration that come when language—the bridge to connection—seems to falter. But instead of retreating, Jez chose a powerful path forward.

Finding solace and strength in Say Aphasia’s weekly Zoom support groups in 2020, Jez soon realised the profound impact of peer connection. “I decided to become a peer leader as I had enjoyed the weekly Say Aphasia Zoom calls".

Now, Jez has taken his commitment even further by joining the charity’s board as a Trustee. This role empowers him to shape the future of Say Aphasia at a strategic level, ensuring that services are led by people with lived experience. His journey from survivor to decision‑maker embodies the charity’s core belief: those affected by aphasia are not just recipients—they are leaders.
